A ‘Model Citizen’ – The Greenlight Projects shares inspiration today with Philanthropist, Author & Chef, Jayda “Divva” Cabbell

Helping someone with problems bigger than mine”, is the motto that drives

Jayda 'Divva' Cabbell

philanthropist, entrepreneur and chef, Jayda Cabbell to devote herself to helping others in need.  “If I can bring an ounce of sunlight to someone whose having a dark moment by just being me, then I’ve done my job!” It is this amazingly inspiring perspective that influences this humble ‘butterfly’ to remain happy & humble through all circumstances! And trust, she’s had her share of situations and circumstances.

Jayda “Divva” Cabbell, (wife, mother, community servant, personal chef, entrepreneur, author, speaker and humble butterfly), migrated to Atlanta by way of New Orleans via Hurricane Katrina. Upon arrival she knew immediately that it would be a struggle continuing her company Divva Dishes in a city as large as Atlanta, instead of feeling sorry for herself and her four children she decided to help others facing greater problems than her own. She began feeding the homeless right outside of the hotel she was living in and gained a clientele with the homeless and hungry before she could even begin branding Divva Dishes.

Once Jayda got on her feet, she took her mission further by going inside the homes of less fortunate families.  Jayda, full of sunshine and love, went into these homes supplying them with a new dinner table, and preparing a meal for the family while teaching the children etiquette and basic kitchen skills.
“I created this experience to bring families to the table and to show others, you can still be fly and fabulous while utilizing your gifts to help others,” she explains. Jayda understands her gift is in the art of inspiration. Everything she does is about inspiring others.

Jayda has written a cook book memoir titled “What Storm Are You Talking About? Life After Hurricane Katrina”, which features Cajun and Creole recipes that she has created or critiqued, along with inspirational tales of trials and triumph. The book will be available early 2011.

In addition to the various programs under her non-profit foundation (BITS), Jayda also gives hours of service to other non-profits, churches and community programs.  She loves traveling to prepare her signature dishes for those in need. Her ultimate goal is to inspire others to Give, Live & Love.  While living up to being a “Divva” with two V’s!!

You can catch Jayda and her inspiring story today at 11am ET on The Greenlight Project with media entrepreneurs Tamika & Rochelle on Blogtalk Radio.  You can also visit Jayda’s website for more information at http://www.jaydacabbell.com/.

What are YOU Choosing?

By: Tamika L. Morrison

Have you ever felt like you were stuck between a rock and a hard place?  I mean, like a serious crossroad?  That place where you are where you are but it’s not where you want to be and where you want to be, you can see it, but something is keeping you from getting there?  Well, that’s what life has felt like for me majority of this year.  I had this inkling when 2010 arrived that THIS would be the year of CHANGE for me.  Not like in a bad way, but in a way that would put a few crowns on my head.  I was nervous ringing this New Year in fo’sho!

About a month ago I received quite an interruption in my life – in my spirit – I’m very intuitive and “in tune” with myself and when sudden wave of anger, frustration and irritation seemed to overcome me – I got on the phone and dialed up my therapist ASAP.  Two weeks later I was laid out on the couch, and then I knew, THIS wasn’t it either.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I think we all should have a ‘shrink’ on speed dial and she’s a damn good one (we have history!), but  I knew that whatever  was ‘changing’ , this method of managing it wasn’t gonna work.  I sensed that if I didn’t get these issues resolved quickly, then the progress I was making professionally, personally and spiritually would soon unravel – by my own hands.  Not good!  Then, like clockwork, depression descended upon my world like the return of Katrina and there was nothing to do but deal with it.

Thanks to one of my best friends who’s connected to the right people at the right time, I got an invitation to “attend a life changing event” last weekend – her exact words. And because she’s one of my Besties, I trusted her and arranged my calendar to attend the 4-day adventure.  It was during that time in this ‘incubator” that I fully awakened again never to sleep on the POWER I have to CHOOSE the kind of life I desire to live.  Master Teacher, Sylvia High, this secret weapon of Humanity, whose anointed teaching and purity of love will

Master Teacher, Sylvia High

shock and shake the skeletons loose in anybody’s closet, is the angel I truly prayed for.  With four days of INTENSE therapeutic discovery, I arose with such power, clarity, awareness and confidence that I’m ALREADY exactly what I need to be to go where I know I should be!  For some reason, this was quite profound to me – that I ALREADY possess everything I need to succeed!  *Record Scratching* Hole up??!  I AM these things already?!?! *Wiping Brow* Damn, that’s good news!

Fifteen of u s- mostly strangers emerged from our fragile shell of ‘selves’ at the beginning to Empowered, Capable and Powerful individuals. Surrounded by love and encouragement, I immediately became ‘unstuck” from limiting beliefs that had me stuck in that hard place and I was instantly RELEASED, armed with new insights and awareness that authorized me with new choices.

Sylvia’s course aptly known as ‘The Basic’ is a two evening, two-day journey designed to have each participant uncover the maximum number of underlying assumptions and hidden beliefs that keeps one stuck. Once these beliefs are uncovered, participants are empowered with new choices and possibilities. Literally.  By the very next day, I had already faced some hard stuff: I reached out to a ‘friend’ who hurt me, to face the issue of what caused the hurt, but got their voicemail (I tried though!), I started responding differently to people around me – in a more welcoming and loving spirit than one of suspicion and distrust and it was complimented and noticed. Business ‘opportunities’ became solid agreements, it’s been…like….a miracle! There’s so much more to this story, but in the spirit of “time”, I’ll keep it short. 🙂

Now, fully operating in my FULL CAPABILITIES, I challenge you to awaken and CHOOSE your thoughts carefully because they determine the temperature of the quality of life as you experience it.  And beware, those thoughts will become actions in which you’ll have to deal with the consequences.  If you CHOOSE negative thinking, you best believe that’s what you’ll get and if you nurture the positives – the ones that are TRUE about who you REALLY are, well you know that’s what you’ll get too!

I’m so excited to have met Sylvia and happy to tell you, you can get some too as she and her team will be back in Atlanta on August 5th at Ramada Airport from 7pm to 9pm and she’ll be a guest on The Greenlight Project on August 6th. There’s so much more to come from this awesome woman, but see for yourself and visit her website.  In the meantime, sign up for the intro class if you’re in Atlanta August 5th and set your reminder for us on August 6th!

And send me a note, tell me what you think about the choices we make in our lives.  We may even have some time for me to share the whole truth and nothing but the truth about some of the reasons why I was holed up on my therapist’s couch *wink*!

Until next time, “…choose life, that you may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
