Shoes Are Two Sisters’ Fashionable Friend!

By: Intern Tia Tia

Family oriented, fashionable, and stylish are words that describe the owners of FaSHOEnista, Monica and Murielle, who are also sisters. The name FaSHOEnista, a savvy high-life shoe boutique in Atlanta came about during a brainstorming event with the two sisters sitting in front of the computer.

Born and raised in the “Peach State” of Georgia, the two owners also have another sister, who decided to watch on the sidelines and cheer them on as their biggest fan. Since Monica wears a 5 ½ sized shoe, she found it very difficult to find stylish shoes in her size, “So why not open up my own boutique?” is what came to this style-conscious entrepreneur-ess mind and that’s when the dream was fulfilled.

As for Murielle, she always wanted to work in the fashion industry, “But I couldn’t draw, so I felt like that would hold me back,” shares Murielle.  But  that didn’t stop these two determined women.  And now, FaSHOEnista has been opened since February of this year and is going strong!

Debuting at FashionGLAM , Atlanta’s second edition of boutique owners, retailers and lovers of fashion celebrating in style at this “Fashion Meets Philanthropy” trunk show, taking place on September 18th at the illustrious Millennium Gate Museum in Atlantic Station, the ladies are extremely excited!“Events like FashionGlam are what we love because we don’t have a physical store, ” shares Monica. However, that doesn’t stop their business, because as they say, “We are a mobile shoe boutique!” From home events to online shopping and trunk shows such as FashionGlam, the dream for the ladies is now their reality..

With Murielle being a happily married woman with two children and Monica standing beside her, the FaSHOEnista brand continues and I especially look forward to seeing the ladies at FashionGlam on Saturday, September 18th, 2010.

Thanks for reading and “like” them on Facebook where exclusive deals and discounts are always given.  Better yet, get your tickets for FashionGLAM and shop with them personally!

Another Bad Spin for PR

By: Tamika L. Morrison

So, Ryan Seacrest and his partner in crime, Kim Kardashian are at it again and has brought back from the dead the embarrassing and wrong example of what PR is about through the foolery known as The Spin Crowd. My hope is that people make a well-informed decision about what PR truly is before pegging us PR folk all the same.

When I first came to Atlanta nearly four years ago, expanding my PR agency from Charlotte, the one thing that was quite evident for me, was everyone and anyone was calling themselves a PR professional. From event planners to party promoters, models, wanna be movie stars, groupies and even pimps. I was horrified!  Every meeting I went on, I felt it necessary to bring out Webster’s Dictionary and talk about what PR was really about.

It was embarrassing, confusing and downright absurd that many people who consulted with me was consulting, not to really bring PR into their business equation, but to get some clarity around what the heck PR was truly all about.  Talk about exhausting and mind-boggling.  And to think, that was nearly four years ago and the foolywang continues through the form of ‘someone’ with a ‘title’ and a little bit of leverage and in the name of ‘entertainment’ my profession is at stake once again. But…you gotta love this disclaimer as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, “Jonathan and Simon are passionate and funny and they have an unorthodox approach to their business that our viewers really responded to when we aired the special earlier this year,” said Berger. “This unique duo (will) work with A-list celebrities, designers and formidable clients while managing to keep their young and sometimes inexperienced staff from spinning out of control.” In case you missed it, check out the word “will” in parenthesis.  Notice that equals, “staged”.

My advice to those of you with hopes of starting a career in public relations (PR), communications, broadcasting, marketing, media, etc. – don’t take the advice of TV because it’s just entertainment.  It really isn’t all about what YOU look like because in reality, your job is more behind the scenes.  It’s not all glamorous; it’s not all celebrities and red carpets.  There are writing skills, negotiating and strategic thinking skills that are needed.  Time management, the ability to research – thoroughly and clearly communicate with confidence and not just “Hey, dude, I think you’d be great for this product! Let’s have a drink!”  Keep in mind; what you’re seeing on TV has no real substance!  While who you know is important, your reputation for getting solid results is your staying power.  And while we’re on it, a good internship is priceless and we’re always looking for a few good men and women willing to roll their sleeves up and get some experience under their belts!

There’s nothing wrong with amusing yourself with foolery and foolywang, just understand the difference.

Until next time,

HOLLA!

Fashion Meets Philanthropy at FashionGLAM!

By: Intern Tia Tia

I love talking about fashion – it’s my passion and one of the fashion icons I follow is Beyonce’Beyonce’, girl you better kill it! The number one thing that I love about Beyonce’ is that she is truly a triple threat!  She dances, gliding across the stage in 5’’ heels and hitting EVERY note while looking stunning is something many artists cannot do.  I will not name names, Keri Hilson LOL, but I digress..

From Beyonce’s amazing voice, to her clothing line, Dereon, to being one of the most sophisticated women in the industry; she in fact impacts the lives of many.  Looking at the Hip Hop world there aren’t many women artist who are really making an impact.  She’s conscious and charitable and is someone I can really respect and look up to and that’s why she’s one of the first people I think of when it comes to FashionGLAM, a celebration of fashion, creativity and philanthropy!  Led by the wonderful ladies at TWS Marketing Communications and Chocolate Pink Productions in Atlanta, FashionGLAM’s main purpose is to celebrate feeling good, looking good and being good as a whole.  One deserving woman will be getting a full makeover that includes clothes, hair, makeup and a photo shoot!  Talk about a nice “give back”, wow!  Can someone nominate me?? 🙂

This season’s benefiting organizations are All Grown Up Inc., a youth organization dedicated to helping young girls and maturing teens develop into womanhood and the Millennium Gate National Monuments Foundation. The Millennium Gate’s mission is to preserve and interpret Georgia history,  architecture, culture and philanthropic heritage as well as highlight Georgia’s historical and aesthetic relevance to the United States and to the world.  It’s a really beautiful place, so click the link to check it out!

There will be plenty of trends, trendsetters and lovers of fashion there to get their shop on.  And did I tell you that all you can drink sparkling wine from Pearly Bay – Opici Wines, their official sponsor and food is included in the admission that is only $35 for the “Glam Fashionista All-Inclusive” pass.  Don’t you love these names?

Anyhow, I’m so excited and look forward to all the vendors, retailers, boutiques and lovely sponsors that are coming on board daily.  Well, that’s my “Fashion & Philanthropy” report – I’ll be updating you often, so if you’re in Atlanta and want to be part of these awesome festivities and hear me tell you all the reasons why Beyonce’ is my favorite artist, then hit me up on email and we’ll get to chatting!

What are YOU Choosing?

By: Tamika L. Morrison

Have you ever felt like you were stuck between a rock and a hard place?  I mean, like a serious crossroad?  That place where you are where you are but it’s not where you want to be and where you want to be, you can see it, but something is keeping you from getting there?  Well, that’s what life has felt like for me majority of this year.  I had this inkling when 2010 arrived that THIS would be the year of CHANGE for me.  Not like in a bad way, but in a way that would put a few crowns on my head.  I was nervous ringing this New Year in fo’sho!

About a month ago I received quite an interruption in my life – in my spirit – I’m very intuitive and “in tune” with myself and when sudden wave of anger, frustration and irritation seemed to overcome me – I got on the phone and dialed up my therapist ASAP.  Two weeks later I was laid out on the couch, and then I knew, THIS wasn’t it either.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I think we all should have a ‘shrink’ on speed dial and she’s a damn good one (we have history!), but  I knew that whatever  was ‘changing’ , this method of managing it wasn’t gonna work.  I sensed that if I didn’t get these issues resolved quickly, then the progress I was making professionally, personally and spiritually would soon unravel – by my own hands.  Not good!  Then, like clockwork, depression descended upon my world like the return of Katrina and there was nothing to do but deal with it.

Thanks to one of my best friends who’s connected to the right people at the right time, I got an invitation to “attend a life changing event” last weekend – her exact words. And because she’s one of my Besties, I trusted her and arranged my calendar to attend the 4-day adventure.  It was during that time in this ‘incubator” that I fully awakened again never to sleep on the POWER I have to CHOOSE the kind of life I desire to live.  Master Teacher, Sylvia High, this secret weapon of Humanity, whose anointed teaching and purity of love will

Master Teacher, Sylvia High

shock and shake the skeletons loose in anybody’s closet, is the angel I truly prayed for.  With four days of INTENSE therapeutic discovery, I arose with such power, clarity, awareness and confidence that I’m ALREADY exactly what I need to be to go where I know I should be!  For some reason, this was quite profound to me – that I ALREADY possess everything I need to succeed!  *Record Scratching* Hole up??!  I AM these things already?!?! *Wiping Brow* Damn, that’s good news!

Fifteen of u s- mostly strangers emerged from our fragile shell of ‘selves’ at the beginning to Empowered, Capable and Powerful individuals. Surrounded by love and encouragement, I immediately became ‘unstuck” from limiting beliefs that had me stuck in that hard place and I was instantly RELEASED, armed with new insights and awareness that authorized me with new choices.

Sylvia’s course aptly known as ‘The Basic’ is a two evening, two-day journey designed to have each participant uncover the maximum number of underlying assumptions and hidden beliefs that keeps one stuck. Once these beliefs are uncovered, participants are empowered with new choices and possibilities. Literally.  By the very next day, I had already faced some hard stuff: I reached out to a ‘friend’ who hurt me, to face the issue of what caused the hurt, but got their voicemail (I tried though!), I started responding differently to people around me – in a more welcoming and loving spirit than one of suspicion and distrust and it was complimented and noticed. Business ‘opportunities’ became solid agreements, it’s been…like….a miracle! There’s so much more to this story, but in the spirit of “time”, I’ll keep it short. 🙂

Now, fully operating in my FULL CAPABILITIES, I challenge you to awaken and CHOOSE your thoughts carefully because they determine the temperature of the quality of life as you experience it.  And beware, those thoughts will become actions in which you’ll have to deal with the consequences.  If you CHOOSE negative thinking, you best believe that’s what you’ll get and if you nurture the positives – the ones that are TRUE about who you REALLY are, well you know that’s what you’ll get too!

I’m so excited to have met Sylvia and happy to tell you, you can get some too as she and her team will be back in Atlanta on August 5th at Ramada Airport from 7pm to 9pm and she’ll be a guest on The Greenlight Project on August 6th. There’s so much more to come from this awesome woman, but see for yourself and visit her website.  In the meantime, sign up for the intro class if you’re in Atlanta August 5th and set your reminder for us on August 6th!

And send me a note, tell me what you think about the choices we make in our lives.  We may even have some time for me to share the whole truth and nothing but the truth about some of the reasons why I was holed up on my therapist’s couch *wink*!

Until next time, “…choose life, that you may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

Next Up on The Greenlight Project: It’s Hip Hop Candi Baby!

By: Tamika L. Morrison

Grammy-winning Singer Monica and sons with It's Hip-Hop Baby

Three years ago, Candi Carter struggled to communicate with her then, three year old son Emerson, who lives with a rare chromosome disorder that caused several medical issues and a severe speech delay.  In an attempt to reach her son and help him transition and learn, she decided to make up songs with instructions in them.  Carter Immediately saw an improvement in his behavior and social interaction.  After creating multiple songs and testing them out on young family members, she decided to create an educational DVD series using family-friendly hip hop music. The Award-winning “It’s Hip Hop, Baby!” CDs and DVDs was launched in March of 2009 and is being distributed by Rhino Entertainment a Warner Music Group Company. It’s Hip Hop Baby has been seen in the news on media outlets such as CBS Atlanta, Oprah & Friends with Dr. Robin Smith and XM Radio with Gayle King and is a favorite among celebs and their children such as R&B songstress, Monica, Justin Chambers (Grey’s Anatomy), Holly Robinson-Peete, Dr. Oz, Roland S. Martin, and more.

Candi Carter has a BA in Broadcast Communications from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. She started her television career at CNN in Atlanta, GA and later produced news specials and children’s programming at WISN-TV-ABC Affiliate in Milwaukee, WI. There she won an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Programming. Over the past fourteen years, Candi has produced award-winning television for an internationally syndicated talk show based in Chicago. (wink)

Candi lives in Oak Park, IL with her husband Joseph Carter, a Private Client Services Banker for JP Morgan with their six year old son and 7 month old daughter.

Tune in at 11am ET on BTR’s The Greenlight Project, a TWS Media Production and listen in as Candi Carter shares how ‘It’s Hip Hop Baby’ got its start and where you can cop your own!

The Soundtracks of My Life

By Tamika L. Morrison

Do you ever think of starring in your own video or creating a soundtrack to your life?  Call me vain, imaginative or bizarre, but I’ve always imagined having my own video to certain songs even before reality TV was born!  As we come off the celebration of Memorial Day Weekend to honor our nation’s soldiers for the supreme sacrifice they offer us – I encourage you to use the spirit of liberty and put on the soundtrack to your life and dance like nobody’s watchin’!

If I had one song to choose as my life’s soundtrack , it would be Goapele’sCloser to my Dreams’.  I remember when I first heard that song; it was love at first note!  She literally took me ‘higher and higher beyond what I could see’ into my greatest desires so I could begin to visualize what life might have in store for me.  It was amazing to embrace and believe these things were possible for me.

I was living in my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina at the time and was really starting to taste the juicy fruits of my hard-earned labor.  I’d just moved into my townhouse I built from the ground up, was excelling at work and trying out my new-found creative freedom as a published writer but I often wondered was there more?  The lyrics that spoke to me says:

Some times it feels like I’ll never go pass here
Some times it feels like I’m stuck forever and ever

But, I’m going higher
Closer to my dreams
I’m goin’ higher and higher
I can almost reach

Every time I needed a reminder of how far I could truly reach – no matter the obstacles or challenges I faced, I’d play this song.  It wasn’t long before I literally threw caution to the wind and found myself packing up leaving the townhouse I was so proud to live in for three years and the career that seemed to be moving smoothly along and heading to the big city of Atlanta into a one-bedroom apartment in Buckhead boldly to explore what else this life might have to offer me.  It was scary and exciting all at the same time!

Atlanta truly beheld many great treasures for me (good and bad) and I am glad Goapele’s song found its way into my life – little did she know the impact it would have on me.  Speaking of impact, you never know whose life you are touching, so be conscious as you make the soundtrack of your life.  Know that somewhere, someone else is listening, watching and will be inspired – good or bad – by the soundtracks of your life.

So as I jam to my favorite sounds adding upon my own life’s soundtrack, I’ll give you some other songs to discover – and if they ‘move’ you in some way, feel free to share!  I’m anxious to know.

1)      Alicia Keys “Unthinkable” – motivates me to dare to dream the unthinkable in my life and soar!

2)      T.I.’s “I’m back”, when I’m feeling like I need a little ‘pick-me-up’;

3)      Mary Mary’s “Ordinary People”, when I feel a little doubtful and

4)      Ken Ford’sMoments in Love when I think of all the beauty surrounding me in love, life, family and fun times.

Until next time,

au revoir!

Celebrate Life ANYWAY!

By: Tamika L. Morrison

I swear, if I could get away with writing a repeat of last week’s Running on Empty, I sure would do it!  Life hasn’t changed much since my last post – I’m still wearing more than a few hats and now I have the audacity to try and get some celebrations in!

I can be tough on myself – I’m sure most of you can identify with that, but being hard on yourself doesn’t add to your growth and it certainly doesn’t add any length of days to your life.  Let’s face it – you’ll win some and you’ll lose some.  Have you ever heard the saying, “I may not be where I want to be, but I’ve definitely come a long way.” Stop right there, meditate on how far you’ve come and get to celebrating!

Life isn’t perfect, we aren’t perfect, but if we care enough about the lessons life teach us and put our best feet forward, you best believe, you’ll start to see more of what you want out of life.  And to that, I’m off to celebrate – and for more than one reason!

Reason #1SATC2 (Sex and the City 2) Premiere!  Charlotte, NC (my hometown), here I come!  I can’t wait to get all dressed up with my favorite girls.  We’ll giggle, sip, dish, make memories and pretend for just a moment, we really have all things GLAM just to feel a little like Carrie Bradshaw and her friends!

Tamika, Grammy-Nominated Vocalist Dionne Farris, Electric Violinist, Ken Ford & Annette Jackson, Exec. Dir. of The Ken Ford Foundation

Reason #2Critically Acclaimed Electric Violinist, Ken Ford will be on The Greenlight Project this Friday, May 28th @ 11am and we’re giving away TWO (2) tickets to see Ken Ford and Grammy-Nominated Vocalist, Dionne Farris, Grammy-Nominated singer/songwriter/producer I Am Daniel Moore and pop urban soul  sensation, Salakida perform LIVE in concert for the launch of The Ken Ford Foundation prestigious music and arts program in Atlanta on June 25th – the best part of this….children 5 – 18 are absolutely FREE!  Now that’s definitely a reason to start celebrating!

So, join me and celebrate!  Away from life’s ‘busyness’ and take it even further and send us an email to win those Ken Ford tickets!  If you’ve never seen him in person performing live, you’re in for a treat!

Until next time,

CIAO Baby!
